NOUN Partners FRCN, NTA Studios For Mass Communication Students’ Practicals

Postby Hoodex » Mon Jun 25, 2018 12:51 pm

Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu has moved a step closer towards securing studios for the practicals of both radio and television courses by the students of Mass Communication of the university.
Adamu, along with his team comprising principal officers, submitted a Mutual of Understanding (MoU) document to the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mansur Liman, in Abuja.

The partnership, according to Adamu, aims to provide NOUN students of mass communication with an avenue for practicals and other tutorials requiring hands on deck for effective learning.

“Practical is a critical component to the study of Mass Communication, and about four of its BMAS (Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard) demands a practical exposure of the students. You can imagine three to four thousand students, where will they go and do practicals? And we don’t have a laboratory.
“A thinking came to us that there is a laboratory in FRCN and NTA scattered all over the country, why don’t we exploit the possibility of creating an understanding that our students can use these facilities, MDAs to MDAs,” he said.
According to Adamu, securing a place for NOUN Mass Communication students to undertake practicals in the course of their study is central to their graduation and NUC accreditation.
He said, “in view of NOUN population of over 421,000 students unevenly distributed across the country, the national spread of FRCN will enable NOUN students littered across the country to access ready studios for practicals easily.”
Prof. Adamu, who had earlier took time to sufficiently furnished his host with the historical antecedents and dynamism of the university, added that “We are here to solicit your cooperation and understanding to enable the students of NOUN, where ever they are, when the time comes for them to access themselves with radio facilities to understand control room, radio ethics, journalism etc, they can use FRCN facilities anywhere in the country as their laboratory.”
Adamu emphasised that the partnership is expected not to add any economic burden to these students but to expose them to the practical rudiments of their profession.
