What is InternationalCommunication or communication?

Communication which has its root in the Latin word, communis,meaning to share‘, is a social interaction and a process of exchanging or sharing of ideologies, meanings, beliefs, understanding, interests, etc within and among people and their physical environments.
International communication is therefore the communication exchange or interaction transcending or across national, political, cultural, and economic boundaries and which is facilitated by the interdependence of nations, groups, and individuals.

List accordingly the components of communication process

For communication to be continuous and effective, it has to make use of the following components to achieve the process.
a. The Sender:
The sender is the originator and encoder of a messagein a way it would be appropriately transmitted. He is in charge of packaging a message and choosing the best medium to distribute it to the audience. If the sender does not package the message well. The receiver will not understand the message.
b. The Message:
The message is the central idea, opinions, believes and information a sender transmits to a receiver. It could be verbal or non-verbal, action or reaction. If there’s no message, there can be no communication
c. Medium:
This is the means or channel through which a sender transmits information to the receiver. It also refers to how a message can be encoded by either the sender or the receiver. The medium could be radio,tv,newspaperetc .without a medium a message cannot get to a receiver.
d. Receiver:
This is the individual the message is channeled to. He is also known as the decoder of the message i.e. the individual who interprets a message received or codified by a sender. If a message does not get to a receiver, there would be no feedback and the communication process would be incomplete.
e. Feedback:
This is the response to a received message. It is the reaction to a message. When there is no feedback, positive or negative to a message, then communication is distorted.

Communication influencein development cannot be overemphasized. The following are the faces of development facilitated through international communication.
a. Ideological development
b. Political development
c. Economic development
d. Education development
e. Technological development
f. Social development
g. Legal development


a. Ideological development

Through international communication, there has been an enhancement in political and economic ideology. This is evident inthe campaign for democracy which has made other past political ideologies such as gerontocracy, plutocracy, oligarchy, socialism, fascism to be thrown into extinction
This means that international communication has helped in ideological upgrade among countries of the world.

b. Political development

Political development in this context refers to a change in the political system of a country which is made possible through international communication.
Through bilateral and multilateral agreement between and among countries, many states are borrowing policies that are likely to yield rapidly towards development from others.

c. Economic development

International communication makes impact in promoting economic ideology that tends towards the development of the world.
This means that through international communication, economic policies of other economic-buoyant nations would be promoted and adopted by other nations for the enhancement of their economic system.
d. Education development

International communication has made inter-education, research and knowledge sharing easier. Scholars around the globe are now in the same yard. The barriers created by the international borders are no more and the wide gap in the communication between two researchers, students, scholars and professionals on the either sides of the international boundaries is closed. Both formal and informal education is now at the door steps of all.

e. Technological development

The boom in technological advancement, innovations as well as in products is courtesy of international communication. This has brought about People from different nations are to work together to build on existing value.

f. Social development

International communication has contributed immensely to socialisation across the globe. In the world today, people relate with one another freely through social media such as facebook, twitter, youtube etc.

g. Legal development

The study of international communication enhances the guidelines to protect the interests of individuals as well as nations involved in international communication. This to avoid conflicts that might result from international relations among countries of the world,


THE NEW MEDIA
The new media which emerged in the latter part of the 20th century simply refers to of the online or internet channels which are involved in thecreation, publishing, distribution and consumption of information
The new media enables Internet accessibility to digital text, images and video with web-links as well as make possible participation, contribution interaction and immediate feedback of users.
The various channels of the new media are referred to as the social media which includes: Facebook, internet web (world wide web), YouTube, Skype, WhatsApp, instagrametc.thety are all used for the information dissemination and receiving purposes within the national and international domains.
